Event organizer, Arthur Klap, said that in terms of providing the young competitors with a figurehead and Juliane fitted the role perfectly, the role of Patron was important. At the Winter Olympics, she has twice represented New Zealand in both the half pipe and snowboard-cross and was the flag bearer in 2010. For the FIS Athlete Commission in 2009, her peers also elected her.

He said, “We’re delighted Juliane has accepted our offer of her becoming Patron for the Junior World Championships. When looking for a patron, we wanted someone who has given strongly to the sports of either snowboarding or freeskiing was recognized as an elite performer and was locally based. Juliane truly covers all those area.” To be offered the role of Patron, Julaien said she was honored and she was looking forward to being involved in the ground-breaking event.

She said, “As patron for the Junior World Champs I am excited to see hundreds of young talented athletes come together here in Wanaka. The resorts are well prepared and the competitions are going to be spectacular to watch. These sports allow athletes to be creative and inventive and in events like these we see people achieving things for the first time and making sporting history.”

At Cardrona Alpine Resort and Snow Park NZ, Lake Wanaka, the 2010 FIS Freestyle and Snowboard Junior World Championships take place from 19 to 31 August, featuring the following nine disciplines, namely snowboard cross, snowboard parallel slalom, snowboard big air, ski cross, snowboard slopestyle, snowboard halfpipe, giant slalom and freeski slopestyle.

The U.S. Cross Country Skiing team for the United States of America spent their Memorial Day Weekend in Oregon. Oregon is where you can found Mt. Bachelor, a mountain that still has snow at this time this year.

The team is really trying to get as much work in as they can in preparation for the 2011 World Championship season. If they want to get properly prepared, they are going to need to spend a lot of time on the snow. With snow available locally, the team jumped at the opportunity to stay around and get onto the powder.

The team has really built a bond together and seems to have the right chemistry to push each other to be better. It is always great for fans and supporters to see a team that really gets along and pushes each other to be their best. One of their team’s goals is to reach the top of their potential. Spending holiday weekends like this at work will go a long way in helping them reach their full capacity.

The United States Cross Country Ski team was not the only team present at the camp. They were joined by the Canadian national team. The Canadians also saw the chance to get out into the snow and jumped at the opportunity.

The team stayed at the camp through the weekend until June 4th, when they departed from Mt. Bachelor and beautiful Oregon.?

At this year’s Winter Olympics, Whistler Mountain near Vancouver is the site of the downhill skiing events. Conditions have improved and the snow for the downhill events is fast and tight and has gave the BC Olympic crowds something to be in awe of even though the snow had been wet and slushy at the beginning,.

Alpine events for the men Alpine events for the men and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in the downhill has been all about the United States' Bode Miller. At this year's games, Miller finally got his long awaited gold medal in the Super Combined and stands at three medals. Miller has more events left in this years contest and if he is able to score another medal he will become the first Winter Olympian to garner four medals in the Alpine competitions.

The unpredictable conditions at the downhill skiing events and Whistler Mountain has been the story. Rain blanketed Vancouver and was causing very slushy and messy conditions early in the games,. The weather seems to have quelled and be more winter like and thus has allowed for better runs.

Still, 'The Comeback Kid' Bode Miller will be the one name that will come to mind when the Vancouver Winter Olympics goes down in the history books as far as downhill skiing goes.

Can anyone learn? What are the costs for equip & approx cost to use designated trails? I'm thinking of buying used if that's possible - any advice? Does one need to buy special boots or can you wear whatever footwear you want? Is CCS more like getting a workout or is it mostly fun going up & down hills?

TIA for any help!
