I have never tried cross country skiing. Is it necessary to take lessons or just try it by myself?
Also suggestions on what kind of clothes i should wear.

What do I need to know about cross country skiing?
Obviously I know nothing about this sport & want to give it a try as I live near CCS trails.
Can anyone learn? What are the costs for equip & approx cost to use designated trails? I'm thinking of buying used if that's possible - any advice? Does one need to buy special boots or can you wear whatever footwear you want? Is CCS more like getting a workout or is it mostly fun going up & down hills?

Weight loss cross country skiing?
Im going nordic (cross country) skiing for 3weeks soon...if every other day im skiing from 9 - 5 and limit myself to 1500kcal per day...will the weight loss be noticable by the end of the trip?
